Settling In
During your first few weeks at University you will undoubtably be very busy, finding out about your course, meeting lots of people and adjusting to living away from home. If you have any problems settling into your accommodation please come and talk to us and we will do our best to help. We want you to be happy in your new home and whether it is a practical issue or you are finding things a little overwhelming we will do our best to help and provide support. As there is so much to remember when you first move in the following reminders may help.
Your Inventory
It is essential that you return your inventory to the site reception desk. If your bedroom, house or flat has any missing or broken items please tell us on this form. If you require a new inventory please collect one from reception. It is essential that you return your form so that when you move out we can compare the condition of the room to when you moved in to ensure you are charged for any repairs or replacement of items.
Maintenance
If you need to report a problem or maintenance issue, please report the fault to your site reception so the problem can be rectified quickly.
Post and Contact details
Please ensure your family, friends and contacts have your correct postal address so that your post does not go missing. Full details can be found in the resident handbook.
Sports Centre
Don't forget living in University and our partner accommodation includes your membership of the Sports Centre. There is a £20 administration fee to activate your membership.
Resident Life Support Officers
When it’s your first time away from home it can be exciting to be in a new environment with lots of new people. Most people adapt well to their new environment and understand that mutual respect and co-operation are very important when you are sharing your home with people you are just getting to know. Occasionally there will be things that you disagree over and it is important that you deal with these situations effectively to ensure you continue enjoying living together. We want to help you do this and have Resident Life Support Officers in place at all our sites to offer information, support and guidance.
What do Resident Life Support Officers do?
They will provide a warm welcome to all new residents through a range of welcome and induction programmes to help you settle into your accommodation. Problems large and small arising during the first few weeks of a new term can easily be blown out of proportion. New students can feel overwhelmed by the many new experiences you have to deal with. This can particularly be the case for International students.
The Resident Life Support Officer plays a vital role during out of office hours where they will provide support if you have worries or problems; they will arrange social programmes and encourage all students to live together thus promoting a harmonious living environment.
The RLSOs can be contacted on 07816 318845.
Changing Your Accommodation
If things aren't quite right, please talk to us about a room transfer or moving to another accommodation choice. This can usually be arranged quite quickly, subject to availability. If you experience any problems regarding your accommodation, contact the General Advisers or Officers at your site reception.
Financial Difficulties
If you have any problems paying your accommodation fees, contact our finance section on +44 (0)161 295 6037 or Student Life on +44 (0)161 295 0023.
